For the first time in New Zealand, "Disney: The Magic of Animation" is coming to Wellington! This captivating exhibition features over 600 objects including original sketches and rare artworks, taking you on a journey through nearly a century of Disney magic.

Celebrated worldwide, from Paris to Tokyo, Seoul to Melbourne, "Disney: The Magic of Animation" showcases a stunning collection of artworks from the talented artists and filmmakers at Walt Disney Animation Studios. This exhibition will spark joy, curiosity, and nostalgia in visitors of all ages.

 

From Mickey Mouse's first appearance in Steamboat Willie (1928) to the modern wonders of Moana 2 (2024), this exhibition highlights how Disney's animation techniques and storytelling have evolved over the years. Yes, this will be the first time artwork from Disney's latest animated film will be on public display.

Visitors will encounter iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse from Steamboat Willie (1928), Sorcerer’s Appentice Mickey from Fantasia (1940), Alice from Alice in Wonderland (1951), Ariel from The Little Mermaid (1989), Belle from Beauty and the Beast (1991), Simba from The Lion King (1994), Elsa and Anna from Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019), Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia (2016), and Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), among others.

The exhibition also offers interactive animation stations where visitors of all ages can practice their colouring skills, costumes for children to enjoy, a chance to take a spin with Belle and the Beast in the ballroom, and an immersive projection experience of Alice endlessly falling.
